Elster H5000 Showcased At Wasser Berlin International Exhibition

Wasser berlin international exhibition

Wasser Berlin International Water Exhibition

Wasser Berlin is a capital goods fair focusing on water and wastewater treatment in Berlin, Germany attracting around 600 exhibitors per year and over 22,000 visitors.

In 2011 at the Wasser exhibition, Elster showcased the H5000 water meter for the first time.

The range of features available with the H5000 means the water meter is ideally suited for billing or water distribution applications.

Gary Vincent, director of marketing and product management for Elster’s water business unit, said of the Elster H5000 water meter:

“With a measuring range of 1600:1, the H5000 offers customers a solution that provides accurate water measurement in support of both commercial billing and network applications. It also simplifies meter selection and helps to provide reliable connectivity for Smart Metering and other telemetry devices,”

Providing simple, cost effective water management, the Elster H5000 Woltmann type water meter is an advanced electronic register and covers a range of industry standard outputs and was the first Woltmann type water meter to achieve international approval with a measuring range of 1600:1.

Tim Gabriel, SVP of operations for Elster’s global water business commented:

“The approval of a range of H5000 meter sizes under European Directive 2004/22/EC recognises the substantial investment and expertise of Elster’s development team and is the latest example of the innovation our customers expect from Elster,”.

Gabriel also added:

“With a measuring range of 1600:1, the H5000 offers customers a solution that provides accurate water measurement in support of both commercial billing and network applications. It also simplifies meter selection and helps to provide reliable connectivity for Smart Metering and other telemetry devices,”.

Sembcorp Bournemouth Water – Finding The Ideal Means Of Measuring The Lowest Of Flows With The Elster H5000

Sembcorp Bournemouth Water

Sembcorp Bournemouth Water

Sembcorp Bournemouth Water are suppliers of drinking water to nearly half a million people from their base in Bournemouth and cover parts of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire in the UK.

The company needed to measure low-flow leakage during the night time in Bournemouth’s district metering areas (DMA) and it had become clear to them that the accuracy levels provided by combination meters was not enough to give precise readings of low water flow levels.

Low-flow level leakage was slipping under the radar as night time levels were too low to be recorded and the water meters used were constantly giving zero flow readings indicating that they were shutting off at low levels and therefore failing to show the real picture of the leakages occurring.

Sembcorp Bournemouth Water required greater flow measurement precision levels as it was a commercial and environmental priority to find a way to accurately measure the low flows so that Sembcorp could assess where to concentrate its resources.

The answer to the low flow leak detection issues was to install the Elster H5000 – a water meter with low flow capabilities which would provide a metrological performance offering accurate measurement of night time flows.

Barrie Light, Leakage Supervisor at Sembcorp Bournemouth Water comments:

“The H5000 water meters are reading down to the lowest levels we have ever had. The meters used previously to measure down to around 0.03 litres per second and then shut off, but the H5000 keeps measuring flow even lower than that. We are now seeing flow 24/7 which means we can quantify leakage at far lower levels”.

“We tried other water meter solutions, but we realised the readings weren’t going low enough,”

“Once the meters reached a very low level they would stop registering.”

The company needed greater precision. It was a commercial and environmental priority to find a way to accurately measure these low flows in PCCs so that Sembcorp could assess where it needed to concentrate its resources.

In addition to the excellent measuring range the Elster H5000 possesses, the water meter also features an advanced electronic including integrated communications which cover a range of industry standard outputs.

Once installed, the simple, effective and highly accurate H5000 now gives Sembcorp the lowest level readings ever on night time flow in PPCs, allowing it to quantify leakage to a far greater degree of accuracy.
