Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables (Self-Regulating, Hazardous Area ATEX Certified)

Thermon Heat Trace Cables

Thermon HTSX Heat Trace Cables – Trace Heating

Heating Cables

Thermon HTSX heat tracing cables provide process temperature maintenance and frost protection to pipework, instrument lines, tanks and drums up to 150° Celsius – with IECEx and ATEX Certification Thermon HTSX trace heating cables are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

HTSX self-regulating heating cables are specifically designed for process temperature maintenance or freeze protection where the ability to withstand exposure to high temperatures is required. HTSX can withstand temperatures up to 250°C (482°F), from factors such as steam purging.

The heat output of Thermon HTSX cable varies in response to the temperature of the surrounding environment. Variations in the ambient temperature or heat lost through the thermal insulation are compensated for automatically along the entire length of a pipe.

HTSX cables are certified for use in ordinary (nonclassified) areas and in potentially explosive atmospheres in accordance with the ATEX Directive and the IECEx Scheme.

Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables – Specification

Thermon HTSX heat trace cables are available in the following wattage densities at 10°C (50°F): 9, 19, 29, 38, 48 and 64 watts per metre.

  • Nominal Supply Voltage : 230 Vac
  • Maximum Maintain Temperature : 150° Celsius
  • Maximum Continuous Exposure Temperature : Intermittent power-on & off – 250°C, Continuous power off – 204°C
  • Minimum Installation Temperature : -60° Celsius
  • Minimum Cable Bend Radius : At -15ºC 10mm ; at -60ºC 32mm
  • Temperature Class Rating : HTSX 3-2, 6-2, 9-2, 12-2, 15-2 T3, HTSX 20-2 T2

Thermon HTSX trace heating cables increase power output as temperatures falls to provide guaranteed frost protection and temperature maintenance of industrial process pipework.

Electric Heat Tracing Cables For Hazardous Areas

Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables

Thermon video providing an overview of best practices for installing heat trace cables to both industrial and hazardous area location pipework. Video covers heat trace cable selection, testing, inspection and pipework preparation prior to installing cables to pipes, valves, flanges and un-insulated pipe supports.

Thermon Electric Heat Tracing System Using htSX Heating Cables

A complete electric heat tracing system will typically include the following components:

1 Trace Heating Cables – depending on the application and system requirements heat trace cables are available in the following technologies: i) Series Constant Wattage ii) Parallel Constant Wattage iii) Power-Limiting iv) Self-regulating type cables.
2. Power Connection Kit
3. RTD Sensor or Control Thermostat
4. In-line/T-splice Kit (permits two or three heat trace cables to be spliced together)
5. Cable End Termination
6. Fixing Tape (to attach heater cables to pipework)
7. “Electric Heat Tracing” Label (peel-and-stick type self-adhesive warning labels)
8. Thermal Insulation

Trace Heating Accessories

The following trace heating ancillary and cable installation components enable the completion of BXS heating cable systems:

THERMON HTSX CABLE CONSTRUCTION

Thermon Cable

1.Nickel-plated copper bus wires (1.3sqmm)

2. Semiconductive heating matrix and fluoropolymer dielectric insulation

3. Tinned copper braid

4. Fluoropolymer overjacket provides additional protection to cable and braid where exposure to chemicals or corrosives is expected.

Thermon HTSX heating cables provide temperature maintenance and frost protection to pipework and mechanical services in all industries – typical applications include heating process pipework, instrument lines and storage tanks to maintain viscosity or prevent frost damage as an integral work-task of plant Winterisation.

Safety & Site Practice for Heat Trace Systems

• Installation of trace heating cables and systems shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person.
• Persons involved in the installation and testing of electric trace heating systems shall be suitably trained in all special techniques required, including: i) the purpose and function of the electrical trace heating system, ii) its associated power supply and control equipment and iii) how to recognize and avoid the hazards associated with its operation and maintenance.
• All personnel shall use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including protective arc flash clothing, to protect against potential arc and electric shock hazards.
• All personnel shall comply with all applicable safety and health guidelines, including Thermon requirements, the regulations outlined in the NEC and CEC, and EN/IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2 for hazardous areas (as applicable), and any other applicable national and local electric codes.
• During installation, the trace heating system parameters shall be verified. Tests shall be performed in the field and documented in the Installation Report as instructed.

For series constant-watt trace heaters (HTEK, TEK, TESH), do not allow the heating portion of the trace heater cable to touch, cross over, or overlap itself.
