Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables (Self-Regulating, Hazardous Area ATEX Certified)
Thermon HTSX Heat Trace Cables – Trace Heating
Heating Cables
Thermon HTSX heat tracing cables provide process temperature maintenance and frost protection to pipework, instrument lines, tanks and drums up to 150° Celsius – with IECEx and ATEX Certification Thermon HTSX trace heating cables are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.
HTSX self-regulating heating cables are specifically designed for process temperature maintenance or freeze protection where the ability to withstand exposure to high temperatures is required. HTSX can withstand temperatures up to 250°C (482°F), from factors such as steam purging.
The heat output of Thermon HTSX cable varies in response to the temperature of the surrounding environment. Variations in the ambient temperature or heat lost through the thermal insulation are compensated for automatically along the entire length of a pipe.
HTSX cables are certified for use in ordinary (nonclassified) areas and in potentially explosive atmospheres in accordance with the ATEX Directive and the IECEx Scheme.
Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables
Thermon HTSX Heat Tracing Cables – Specification
Thermon HTSX heat trace cables are available in the following wattage densities at 10°C (50°F): 9, 19, 29, 38, 48 and 64 watts per metre.
- Nominal Supply Voltage : 230 Vac
- Maximum Maintain Temperature : 150° Celsius
- Maximum Continuous Exposure Temperature : Intermittent power-on & off – 250°C, Continuous power off – 204°C
- Minimum Installation Temperature : -60° Celsius

Safety & Site Practice for Heat Trace Systems
• Installation of trace heating cables and systems shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person.
• Persons involved in the installation and testing of electric trace heating systems shall be suitably trained in all special techniques required, including: i) the purpose and function of the electrical trace heating system, ii) its associated power supply and control equipment and iii) how to recognize and avoid the hazards associated with its operation and maintenance.
• All personnel shall use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including protective arc flash clothing, to protect against potential arc and electric shock hazards.
• All personnel shall comply with all applicable safety and health guidelines, including Thermon requirements, the regulations outlined in the NEC and CEC, and EN/IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2 for hazardous areas (as applicable), and any other applicable national and local electric codes.
• During installation, the trace heating system parameters shall be verified. Tests shall be performed in the field and documented in the Installation Report as instructed.
For series constant-watt trace heaters (HTEK, TEK, TESH), do not allow the heating portion of the trace heater cable to touch, cross over, or overlap itself.
