Thermon VSX heat tracing cables provide process temperature maintenance and frost protection to pipework, instrument lines, tanks, IBCs and drums up to 149°C (300°F) – with IECEx and ATEX Certification Thermon VSX trace heating cables are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

VSX self-regulating heating cables offer high performance heating in applications where high temperature maintenance or exposure is needed. The heat output of VSX series cable varies in accordance with the surrounding temperature by reducing its own thermal output in response to an increase in ambient temperature. Due to its high self-regulating characteristics, Thermon VSX heat tracing cables can be installed in hazardous areas requiring a temperature class rating of T3. VSX cables are approved for use in ordinary (nonclassified) areas, hazardous (classified) areas, and Zone 1 and 2 classified areas.

Thermon VSX heat trace cables are available in the following wattage densities at 10°C (50°F): 16, 33, 49 and 66 watts per metre or 5, 10, 15 and 20 watts per foot.

Safety & Site Practice for Heat Trace Systems

• Installation of trace heating cables and systems shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person.
• Persons involved in the installation and testing of electric trace heating systems shall be suitably trained in all special techniques required, including: i) the purpose and function of the electrical trace heating system, ii) its associated power supply and control equipment and iii) how to recognize and avoid the hazards associated with its operation and maintenance.
• All personnel shall use all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including protective arc flash clothing, to protect against potential arc and electric shock hazards.
• All personnel shall comply with all applicable safety and health guidelines, including Thermon requirements, the regulations outlined in the NEC and CEC, and EN/IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2 for hazardous areas (as applicable), and any other applicable national and local electric codes.
• During installation, the trace heating system parameters shall be verified. Tests shall be performed in the field and documented in the Installation Report as instructed.

For series constant-watt trace heaters (HTEK, TEK, TESH), do not allow the heating portion of the trace heater cable to touch, cross over, or overlap itself.
