Kapton Heaters​

A thin, flexible and semi-transparent heating material, Kapton Polymide is ideally suited for the production of heater elements. With fast and efficient heat transfer to surfaces, low thermal mass and excellent resistance to chemicals, weather and radiation Kapton allows for high power densities and offers fast response to temperature control. Where low profile, localised heating is required Kapton Heaters are the ideal solution.

Similarly to the etch foil heaters, Kapton heaters are constructed from computer designed, chemically etched foil tracks which are laminated between ultra-thin sheets of polymide to give precise, even heating.

Suitable for both low and high volume production, Kapton heaters have rapid heat up properties and allow for precise thermal control. For applications where high power densities are required, Kapton heaters offer a more intimate form of heating than silicone heaters due to their low thermal mass and thin and lightweight construction.

Kapton heaters are suited to both high and low volume applications, applications which require a rapid heat-up times or where even surface heating is required. Kapton heaters have been regularly used for the following purposes; analytic test equipment, aircraft electronics, diagnostic instruments and laboratory equipment to name just a few.

Kapton heaters of virtually any shape or size can be manufactured with a top quality, high speed design, prototype and production service available. Etch foil Kapton heaters can be produced to customers for trials and testing within days with average lead times of 3-4 weeks for full production (dependent on quantity) and urgent delivery of 10 days on prototype Polymide designs


Kapton is a clear, amber coloured polyimide film developed by DuPont in the late 1960s.

DuPont™ Kapton® polyimide films have set and advanced the industry standard for over 45 years in high performance, reliability and durability with a unique combination of electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties that withstand extreme temperature, vibration and other demanding environments.

Kapton heaters demonstrate extreme high tensile strength with excellent withstand to pressure and stress despite thin form and flexible heating design. Kapton is also preferred as a surface heating material due the dimensional strength of composition and ability to retain original design shape while under extreme temperature exposure.


Outgassing is a concern for any electronic equipment intended for use in high-vacuum environments – the term refers to the release, through sublimation or evaporation, of gas trapped within a solid. Kapton is classed as a low outgassing heating technology with absolutely minimal gas release.
