Selecting the Right Lumen Level
As LED light fittings are more efficient than the High Intensity Discharge (HID) equivalent, a watt-for-watt replacement would produce significantly higher than desired levels of lighting. Generally, an LED equivalent hazardous area light fittings produce the same light, but with 1/3 to 1/2 the energy consumption of HID lighting. More information on upgrading from HID to LED lighting can be found here.
HID Equivalent | LED Lumen Range |
70 Watts | 2000 – 3000 |
100 Watts | 3000 – 4000 |
150Â Watts | 4000 – 5000 |
175 Watts | 5500 – 7000 |
250Â Watts | 8000 – 10000 |
350Â Watts | 10000 – 12000 |
400Â Watts | 12000 – 14000 |
600Â Watts | 16000 – 18000 |
750Â Watts | 18000 – 20000 |
1000Â Watts | 24000 – 26000 |
1250Â Watts | 29000 – 31000 |
1500Â Watts | 37000 – 39000 |
As mounting height, beam pattern, and overall lighting conditions can all affect the perceived lighting levels, it is always best to request a lighting simulation and a light fitting sample. Contact us at Thorne & Derrick for more information.
