EAC Approved & Certified
Lighting Products for Hazardous Areas
Raytec’s SPARTAN range of LED lighting for hazardous areas has been credited with EAC Russian Certification, widening the global approval of SPARTAN luminaires and lighting products for explosive atmospheres to provide new opportunities for business growth in new markets.
EAC is the Mark of Conformity for Customs Unions (CU) Countries – the GOST safety mark has been replaced by this new conformity mark called the EurAsian Conformity Mark or EAC.
Crossing Continents & Creating Opportunities for UK Manufacturing
As well as opening access into Russia, the EAC certification allows SPARTAN lighting products and all other EAC certified electrical equipment to be supplied into the Eurasian Customs Union (EACU): this includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan where EAC Certified products are specified for hazardous area lighting in onshore and offshore oil, gas and petrochemical projects.
The Raytec SPARTAN range of LED technology lighting products and fittings are manufactured in the UK and stocked, supplied and distributed globally by Approved Channel Partner, Thorne & Derrick International.
The new EAC Certificate of Conformity for the Customs Union for Safety of Equipment for use in explosive atmospheres is mandatory for any electrical equipment including lighting systems that are to be operated or installed in hazardous areas and potentially explosive atmospheres in these countries.

EAC

EurAsian Conformity Mark (EAC)
The EAC declaration and the EAC certificate in conformity with the technical regulations TR CU of the Eurasian Economic Union are EAC Certification documents issued by independent accredited certification bodies. Such organizations perform their function through laboratories accredited to the public agencies in charge of the supervision of metrology and standardisation in the the countries of the EAC Economic Union.
The Eurasian Conformity mark (EAC, Russian: Евразийское соответствие ЕАС) is a certification mark to indicate products intended for use and installation in hazardous area industries (eg oil, gas and petrochemicals) conform to all technical regulations of the Eurasian Customs Union. It means that the EAC-marked products, including lighting products, meet all requirements of the corresponding technical regulations and have passed all conformity assessment procedures. The mark was introduced in August 2013.
The certification centers for the EAC Customs Union assesses the conformity of given products to the relevant regulations TR CU. The quality assessment, followed by the awarding of an EAC certification, allows the access to the markets of EAC members. The legislation does not provide any discrimination between goods produced within or outside of the EAC certification area. Nevertheless, the presence of a representative registered in one of the three member countries, to formally require the document, is required.
Requirement for EAC Marking & Conformity
- EAC marking must be easy to read with the naked eye
- Dimensions of the EAC mark should not be less than 5 mm
- EAC marking should be monochrome and colour contrast to the surface
- EAC sign sholud be placed to guarantee its legibility throughout the life of products
Barry Thompson, Director of Raytec’s Hazardous Area Lighting Division, commented, “as we look to expand and grow the global presence of our SPARTAN LED lighting range, we recognise the value and potential which the Russian market holds. Obtaining this certification is pre requisite to allow us to compete in what we believe will become a very important market place for us”.
Terry McDonald, Business Development Manager for Thorne & Derrick, adds, “we look forward to further developing our current business levels in the Russian and Caspian Oil and Gas markets for our ranges of explosion proof products for use in hazardous area locations. This EAC conformity achievement for Raytec and their SPARTAN lighting products is a significant step towards that goal.”
