Explosive Atmospheres & Hazardous Areas

Drum handlers are manufactured to satisfy ATEX Directive regulations for use in hazardous areas with explosive atmospheres, both Zone 1 & Zone 2. Typical applications include warehousing, storage, processing and logistics in oil, gas petrochemical refining and distribution centres where drum barrels containing oils or chemicals must be transported using non-sparking equipment.

The presence of explosive atmospheres caused by flammable gas, mist or vapour poses ignition source risks disallowing the use of non-ATEX drum handling equipment – typical risks include hydrogen, ethylene, propane and methane gas.

Frictional contact between metals causes risk of igniting explosive atmospheric gas and vapour – generally fire hazards caused by friction sparks are significantly reduced when using “non sparking”, “spark resistant” or “spark proof” light metals such as stainless steel.

Drum handlers enable the safe lifting by fork lift trucks of industrial and hazardous area located drums and barrels in potentially explosive atmospheres, clean rooms, wash rooms and Zone 1 and Zone 2 workplace areas according to the ATEX Directive.

Precision engineered and manufactured in the UK to highest quality standards the range of drum handling equipment for hazardous areas requires very low maintenance and should be lightly oiled to avoid damage.

Drums of various sizes and diameters can be safely and efficiently handled, grabbed and rotated – contact us to discuss your requirements.

To complement our range of ATEX drum handlers for use in potentially explosive hazardous areas, T&D supply from stock the largest range of Drum Heaters.
