ASCO NFIS WSNFIS explosion proof solenoid valve operators are ATEX certified for installation in potentially explosive atmospheres located in hazardous areas.
The solenoid operators with Intrinsically Safe IEC explosion protection techniques, are suitable for use in hazardous areas with exposure to gas, classified as Zone 0 or those exposed to dust and classified as Zone 21.

The Ex ia solenoid operators, used in conjunction with valves, are compliant with International and European Standards EN-IEC 60079-0, EN-IEC 60079-11 and EN-IEC 60079-31 and also certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres according to ATEX-Directive 2014/34/EU.
ASco nfis & wsnfis valve operators – features
- NFIS & WSNFIS solenoid valve operators are highly efficient. They can operate at a very low power level of 0.5W
- The solenoid operators have a chromated aluminium, epoxy coated (NFIS) or 316L grade Stainless Steel (WSNFIS) enclosure
- Continous duty, class H moulded coil contains moulded in solid state components to enable switch-off peak voltage suppression, independent polarity connection and electronic enhancement
- These Ex ia operators are suitable for use with 327 Series solenoid valves
- Conduit hub, 1/2″NPT, M20 x 1,5, 3/4″NPT or M25 x 1,5 in aluminium or stainless steel
- Brass nickel plated or stainless steel cable gland

asco ex ia valve operators – ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS & Connections
Electronic Enhanced “IS” Solenoid
- Normal Operating Voltage: 24 Volts, DC +/-10%
- Maximum allowable “off” state current to the valve: < 1 mA
- Maximum capacitor charge time: 2 seconds
- Minimum time between cycles: 2 seconds
- Minimum drop current to reset electronic coil: 2 mA
- A minimum series resistance of 200 Ohms is required in wiring if a safety barrier is not used
Connections:
- The operator can be rotated 360° to select the most favourable position for cable entry
- The solenoid operator can be mounted in any position without affecting operation
- Application of the operator, located within hazardous areas, is not permitted without the addition of an approved and classified device (such as barriers) located between the safe and hazardous area
- Solenoid enclosure has a cable gland with integral strain relief for cables with an o.d. from 7 to 12 mm and is provided with
an internal and external connection facility for an earthing or bonding conductor
