Abtech BPG GRP and SX stainless steel electrical enclosures and junction boxes are ATEX certified and suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

Abtech stainless steel (SX) and Abtech GRP (BPG) electrical enclosures provide unprecedented levels of fire resistance, thus assuring that safety critical systems such as Ex emergency lighting or fire safety controls keep their electrical integrity during severe events. This protection against intense heat is applicable to Abtech safe area and hazardous area enclosures.

Abtech have tested the maximum levels of fire resistance via a number of independent testing in accordance with the defined IEC and British Standards.

Junction Boxes & Enclosures

Both the SX stainless steel and BPG glass reinforced polyester (GRP) ranges successfully met the requirements for IEC331: 750 ºC for 3 hours and BS6387 part ‘C’: 950ºC for three hours. In both cases the electrical enclosure and its components were suitable to function at the end of the time period.

GRP fire resistant enclosures are highly resistant to contamination from oils, fats, aliphatic and aromatic carbohydrates, bacteria and enzymes. GRP enclosures can also be used for LSOH (low smoke zero halogen) applications.

In addition, the SX stainless range was also successfully tested to BS6387 part ‘Z’ (external impact) and part ‘W’ (water spray). In all cases the fire rated enclosures were fitted with suitably rated ceramic terminals.

This high level of fire resistance has led to Abtech electrical enclosures being selected on a number of key projects including the UK Channel and Tyne tunnels as well as major refinery projects such as Tengiz (TCO) in Kazakhstan.
