Ex d flameproof enclosures provide power distribution in hazardous areas and can be configured with appropriate cable terminals to suit requirements – various sizes of electrical enclosures are available in aluminium, stainless steel and cast iron. For explosion protection types Ex e and Ex ia enclosures, a wide range of terminal and junction boxes is available are stainless or mild steel – GRP glass-reinforced polyester flameproof enclosures are also available.

Ex d flameproof motor starters can also be specified and supplied to provide explosion-proof power switching in Zone 1 & 2 (gas) and Zone 21 & 22 (dust) potentially explosive atmospheres.

Hazardous Area Enclosure Specifications

ABTECH junction boxes and enclosures can be customised to meet specific operational and environmental requirements. The key specification areas include:

  • General: Model number, quantity, enclosure material (Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, GRP, Plastic), area classification (e.g., Class 1 Zone 2), ambient temperature range, certification required (ATEX, IECEx, or Safe Area).
  • Terminals: Number of rails, model (e.g., Weidmuller, Phoenix), terminal size (2.5mm², 6mm², etc.), quantity, link design, and numbering.
  • Cable Entries: Specify metric or NPT threaded entries, side A–D size and quantity.
  • Cable Glands: Specify armoured or non-armoured, side A–D, size, and material (Nickel Plated Brass, Stainless Steel, Nylon).
  • Accessories: Mounting plates, tag labels, label brackets, earth bars, earth continuity plates, breather drains, and any other specific requirements.
