VEGA VEGAPULS 68 Radar Level Sensor

VEGA Level Sensors
Level Sensor VEGA VEGAPULS 68
VEGA VEGAPULS 68 radar level sensor provides continuous level measurement of bulk solids under difficult process conditions and is suitable for high silos, large bunkers, stone crushers and in the furnace providing exact measuring results independent of vapour, dust or noise.
The VEGAPULS 68 has a large measuring range and a variety of antenna options and materials ensuring the level sensor can be used universally for virtually all applications & processes – maintenance free operation through the usage of the non-contact measuring principle.

Operating VEGAPULS 68
VEGAPULS 68 is a radar sensor in K-band technology for continuous level measurement of solids. An adapted version of VEGAPULS 68 is available for each area of application – the level sensor with horn antenna is particularly suitable for measurement of virtually all bulk solids in small silos and vessels. VEGAPULS 68 with parabolic antenna is recommended for large silos and vessels with up to 70 metres (76 yds) measuring distance and for measurement of solids with low dielectric figure. VEGAPULS 68 is also suitable for applications in liquids.
Using VEGAPULS 68
The adjustment of the VEGA instrument is carried out via the optional display and adjustment module PLICSCOM or via a PC with the adjustment software PACTware and corresponding DTM. Further adjustment options are possible via a HART Communicator as well as manufacturer-specific programs such as AMSâ„¢ or PDM.
Polarisation of VEGAPULS 68
The emitted radar pulses of VEGAPULS 68 are electromagnetic waves – the waves have electrical and magnetical components that are perpendicular to each other. The polarisation is defined by the direction of the electrical component. With radar level sensors, the polarisation can be used to considerably reduce the effect of false echoes by turning the instrument in the connection flange or mounting boss. The position of the polarisation is marked on the VEGA instrument.

VEGA VEGAPuls 68 FEATURES
Function
Extremely short microwave pulses are emitted by the antenna system in the direction of the measured product, reflected by the product surface and received back again by the antenna system.
The time from emission to reception of the signals is proportional to the level in the vessel. A special time stretching procedure allows reliable and precise measurement of the extremely short signal running times.

Preventing Moisture Ingress
Use the recommended cables in the VEGA VEGAPULS 68 user manual and tighten the cable gland – additional protection against moisture penetration can be secured by leading the connection cable downward in front of the cable entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off – this applies mainly to outdoor mounting as well as installation in areas where high humidity is expected (e.g. through cleaning processes) or on cooled or heated vessels.
