ATEX BALANCES
Hazardous Area Balances for Zone 1 & Zone 2Â
An ATEX balance is a type of weighing instrument or hazardous area scale designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
EK-AEP is an ATEX scale or balance manufactured by A&D Weighing and distributed by Thorne & Derrick. The weighing equipment is designed with additional safety features to prevent ignition sources that can trigger an explosion in hazardous area environments where there may be combustible gases, vapours, dusts or flammable substances present.
The A&D EK-AEP is a intrinsically safe balance which is compact, lightweight and economical to help perform precise weight measurement in potentially explosive hazardous environments.
It is manufactured with an optical connector which helps to output weighing results to a device in a distant safe area via optical fibre cable and an AD-1611 optical communication adapter. Additionally, A&D weighing and balancing aid in limiting the energy available to a degree below which heat or sparks could ignite flammable gases or vapours.
HAZARDOUS AREA Scales & BALANCES
key features & Benefits
- The EK-AEP series has a high resolution type electronic balances having a display resolution of 1/12,000 or 1/30,000
- The LCD backlight with help with use in dimly lighted place
- Explosion proof: these balances are designed with sturdy and durable materials to prevent sparks, heat, or other ignition sources. They are made from non sparking materials, such as stainless steel or aluminium, to ensure safety in explosive atmospheres.
- Intrinsic safety: ATEX balances are equipped with intrinsically safe components that limit electrical energy to levels that cannot ignite combustible gases, vapours or dust. This prevents any potential ignition sources from being generated within the balance.
- Gas and dust protection: The balances are designed to operate safely in environments where flammable gases or vapours are present. This ensures the prevention of gases and dusts in risk of ignition, meaning the balance remains safe for use in hazardous areas.
- Precision and Accuracy: These ATEX balances provide accurate and precise measurements for the intended applications.
- Risk Mitigation: By using ATEX certified balances, it can mitigate the risk of ignition in environments sources are present. This helps preventing any potential sources from sparking or igniting.
- Safety compliance: These balances are designed to comply with ATEX directives and standards. This ensures that any balance meet the necessary safety requirements for use in hazardous areas with explosive atmospheres.

Hazardous area classification
You can effectively maintain balance in areas which have ignitable flammable gases, vapours or liquids and are present for continuous prolonged amount of time under the standard operating conditions, such as hazardous area Zone 0 or Division 1.
Areas in which the EK-AEP ATEX balances are certified for safe use:
Flammable gases / vapours present continuously | Flammable gases / vapours present intermittently | Flammable gases / vapours present only accidentally | |
