ATEX Magnetic Door Lock for Hazardous Area Control
SecurEx together with Thorne & Derrick International are proud to present the worlds first true Ex certified security Magnetic Locking System (Magbar). T&D are sole UK distribution partner for the world’s fist ATEX & IECEx certified magnetic door lock. The partnership brings safety innovation to T&D’s client base operating in hazardous areas.
The ATEX Maglocks are manufactured under licence by SecurEx sister company WATH Group providing unique and bespoke product offering designed for use in hazardous areas Zones 1,2, 21 & 22 – typically with CE, ATEX, IECEx and/or UL certifications.
SecurEx Technology Limited, the UK’s leading specialist provider of security products and solutions including the SX product range of locking and security products – offering bespoke solutions for use in numerous gas and dust environments in the following industries; oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, utilities, food, military, government, beverage & distilleries and ATEX certified vending stores in the automotive industry where they need access control.
The ATEX Magnetic Locks are essentially used as a means of access control usually used in conjunction with a card reader system
Specifically designed for applications where flammable vapors are a cause for concern, like clean rooms, chemical plants, or refinery environments. These Ex locks eliminate the possibility sparking or arcing within the magnetic lock.
Magbar’s & Magnetic locks are commonly found in safe area applications as up until now there hasn’t been a suitable solution for hazardous (Ex) environments.
The SX-LS-P7XXXXA series of Electromagnetic locks has been designed with added safety features to ensure they stay one step ahead of the competition.
The question users need to ask themselves – Is your access control system/magnetic door lock compliant with ATEX/IECEx Standards? If not don’t hesitate call T&D International today.

EX Maglocks
Unique Features
- Specifically designed for use in hazardous area (Ex environments) Zones 1,2, 21 & 22 (unrivaled security solution for access control)
- Designed with both ‘form and function’ in mind
- Two different versions 12 or 24DC
- Manufactured from a single solid mono-block of 316L stainless steel
- Ability to withstand loads of up to 500 kgf
- IP67 rated and suitable for on and offshore applications
The SX EX Electromagnetic lock has been designed for use on a wide range of door configurations including use of both inward and outward opening doors. Each lock is provided as standard as a two part set comprising the Electromagnetic Lock and The Armature Plate (Keeper).
SX range incorporate door status monitoring with changeover contacts as standard when used as part of an integrated access control solution enhancing both enhanced safety and security.
Grade 2 (SEOL) and Grade 3 (TEOL) options are available for applications that require higher security – a door status with anti tamper and product fault monitoring.
The SX-LS-P7XXXXA series can be installed and functions in the same way as a standard electromagnetic lock by being fitted onto the frame and acting on the armature plate (keeper unit) which is usually mounted to the top of the door.

Locking Mechanism
When correctly the Ex Maglocks will provide both a reliable locking solution and door status information for access control purposes. Locking is achieved when the armature (keeper) is in full contact with the Electromagnetic lock and either 12V DC or 24V DC is applied (depending on product variant).
When electrically locking the door, ideally the lock should ONLY be energized when ‘door closed status’ has been detected AND after allowing ‘settling time’ to ensure the door to be completely come to rest in its normal closed position.

Maintenance
When used in harsh outdoor conditions, we recommend regular routine maintenance as follows:
- Regular check the Electromagnetic Lock for correct operation
- Regularly test the switch contact functionality with the monitoring system for correct contact operation
- Regularly clean and remove all the dirt and/or particles that could lead to the locks operation or condition being impaired. In particular ensure the magnetic surfaces are kept clean and clear of debris which could impair performance
- Every 3 months check the external sealing of the multicore cable connections and the overall condition of the unit
