ATEX Maglocks | Hazardous Area Zone 1 & 2 Magnetic Locks for Access Control & Security Door Locking
ATEX Maglocks
SX EX Electromagnetic Lock
Access Control Security Solution For Zones 1, 2, Zones 21 & 22
SecurEx SX EX Electromagnetic Lock (Maglock) also referred to as an ATEX Maglock is an unique SX security product that has been designed as the first truly ‘Ex Certified’ door locking product.
The ATEX Maglock is specifically designed for use in hazardous areas (Ex environments) Zones 1,2, 21 & 22 – providing an unrivalled security solution for access control.
The ATEX Magnetic Lock is designed with both ‘form and function‘ in mind. The magnetic lock itself is manufactured from a single solid mono-block of 316L stainless steel and when purchased is supplied with 5 metre multi-core user cable as standard.
The magnetic lock device works with both the SecurEx door controller and access products as well as other third party ACU systems providing a highly effective security solution with the ability to withstand loads of up to 500 kgf or 1200lbs.
The lock is available in a choice of 12 or 24 VDC versions and is provided with a special door Armature (Keeper unit), which includes a door status magnet.
The Maglock incorporates door status monitoring with changeover contacts as standard, when used as part of an integrated access control solution this product can provide both enhanced safety and security for personnel.
The ATEX Maglock is IP67 rated and suitable for on and offshore applications. For standard security applications the lock is often supplied with door status monitoring and is provided with a special door armature (Keeper unit), which includes a door status magnet. Grade 2 (SEOL) and Grade 3 (TEOL) options are available for applications that require higher security – a door status with anti tamper and product fault monitoring.
In most standard configurations the unit is usually supplied fitted with door status monitoring and is provided with a special door armature (Keeper unit), which includes a door status magnet. For higher security applications, the product has been designed with special versions available providing graded door status contacts with anti tamper and product fault monitoring.
The wide variety of configurations available for this locking system make it particularly useful when used as part of an integrated access control solution where it can provide both enhanced safety and security for personnel.
➡ The SecurEx SX Magnetic Door Lock is provided as standard with a documentation pack including Operation, Installation & Maintenance Guide (OIMG), mounting templates & copies of all appropriate certifications.
Maglocks Specifications
The SecurEx SX-LSP7XXXXA series of Maglocks can be installed and used just like a conventional electromagnetic lock by fitted onto the frame and acting on the armature plate (keeper unit) which is usually mounted to the top of the door. The electromagnetic lock is factory fitted as standard with a grey, multi-core ‘wire braided’ cable. The signal cores MUST be appropriately terminated via a suitable terminated via a suitable certified Ex e gland into a local Ex e junction box.
Mounting Options
The SX EX Electromagnetic lock has been designed for use on a wide range of door configurations including use of both inward and outward opening doors. Each lock is provided as standard as a two part set comprising the Electromagnetic Lock and The Armature Plate (Keeper).
The exceptions to this are the Grade 2 SEOL and Grade 3 TEOL units are additionally complete with a separate ‘I’ security plate. The security ‘I’ plate is designed to be independently mounted behind the lock and incorporates anti-tamper measures by virtue of a hidden magnetic feature which triggers the tamper relay in the lock if the lock is subsequently removed.
Common mounting arrangements for both outward and inward opening doors are shown below along with the part numbers for the associated part numbers.
A common mounting arrangement for outward opening doors is for the magnetic lock to be fitted neatly beneath the door frame with the Armature Plate being fitted directly to the door which then closes directly onto the lock. This requires an optional custom L bracket as shown above.
The above image also shows Grade 3 units ‘I’ security plate positioned between the lock and the L bracket.
➡ Please Note: Due to common mounting points the L brackets can be used to mount the armature (keeper) plate in an alternate mounting arrangement if required.
A typical mounting arrangement for inward opening doors is for the magnetic lock to be fitted directly to the outside face door frame with Armature Plate being stepped off of and up from the door to close directly onto the lock. This arrangement requires our optional custom Z bracket and is shown above. Again the image also shows the Grade 3 units ‘I’ security plate positioned behind the lock.
➡ Please Note: Due to common mounting points the Z bracket can also be used to mount the lock in an alternate mounting arrangement if required.
Mounting Kits for ATEX Certified Magnetic Locks
The following kits are available at an extra cost:
- L – Bracket Kit – P/N SX-LS-M70101A – comprising of an L Bracket which is designed to allow the lock to be neatly mounted under the door frame whilst the receiver plate is directly mounted to the door. Due to common mounting points the L brackets can be used to mount the armature (keeper) plate in an alternate mounting arrangement if required
- Z Bracket – P/N SX-LS-M70201A – comprising a 2 part adjustable Z bracket, this kit allows either the armature (keeper) plate of the lcok itself to be set off of the door or frame. The bracket provides an adjustable offset clearance of up to 75mm
- S Bracket Kit P/N SX-LS-M7040XA – the S bracket option allows us to create special custom brackets designed to meet specific clients unique requirements

Mechanical Installation of Maglocks
The SecurEx SX-LS-P7XXXXA series can be installed and functions in the same way as a standard electromagnetic lock by being fitted onto the frame and acting on the armature plate (keeper unit) which is usually mounted to the top of the door.
Basic installation requires 4 x M6 mounting bolts for the lock and a further 4 x M6 mounting bolts for the Armature Plate (Keeper). The lock is provided as standard fully assembled with 5m user cable factory fitted.
