In the petrochemical industry the pipeline is the main part of the refinery. Crude oil is transported either directly from the oil wells or from an oil terminal to the refinery via pipeline. This is the means of transport for all the various oil and distillation products.

The environment is protected as concrete impounding basins can be found where pig valves or slide valve stations are located stopping leakages of the shut off devices.  Application measurement is required to prevent rain or ground water seeping into the impounding basin.

VEGAFLEX 81 TDR level sensor detects rain or ground water penetrating into the impounding basin. VEGAFLEX 81 guided wave radar level sensor is able to detect how much oil and water, as well as the oil thickness. This information is processed and a decision is made about whether there is a potential danger to the environment.
