BACKGROUND

There is a vast range of connector options available for use with today’s modern Light Rail Vehicle or LRV systems in Rail Mass Transit including hazardous area connectors.  The reverse bayonet connector is an ideal choice as it offers high resistance to shocks and vibrations and fast and easy coupling, with only around two turns needed of the coupling nut. A fine-threaded 5015-type connector increases the mechanical advantage by allowing for the coupling of connectors with a higher pin count (mating force) or a coarse thread type.

PROBLEM

Light Rail Vehicles are regularly subjected to a significant amount of vibration during their lifespan. This vibration can often cause traditional connectors to become loose over time which can disrupt power and cause signal loss, sometimes causing the train to come to a halt. Choosing a suitable connector to support both the high pin count and also offer vibration-resistance can be a difficult task.

The anti-decoupling ratchet mechanism of the Amphe-ARC Series is similar to the one used in the 38999 series of military connectors, manufactured by Amphenol. Amphe-ARC connectors feature a rugged double start thread which is also featured by the 22992 Military Series. These characteristics, along with the easy clean threads and shock and vibration resistance of standard reverse bayonet connectors and the popular 5015 insert, make this range ideal for use with LRV power and signal systems.
