ATEX Lighting

The Wolf Safety Lamp range of hazardous area portable lighting with ATEX and IECEx explosion protection certification includes torches (handheld and right-angled types), handlamps, headtorches and the Wolflite Handlamp with bulb and LED version suitable for use with either primary cells or rechargeable batteries and chargers.

ATEX

ATEX is a legislative directive applicable to electrical and mechanical equipment to be used in hazardous area work places with potentially explosive atmospheres – ATEX requires equipment and protective systems intended for explosive atmospheres to be designed and manufactured to minimize the occurrence and limit the severity of accidental explosions. The purpose of ATEX is to harmonise diverse rules of various EU member states that previously prevented the operation of a single market for explosive atmosphere equipment.

Prior to ATEX certification the manufacturer must undertake an explosion risk assessment listing the main hazards and the protection measures to demonstrate that those protective measures adequately reduce the risk of explosion from the electrical equipment.

Harmonised ATEX standards provide detailed guidance on risk assessment methods and protection methods recognized as providing an adequate reduction of hazardous area risks.
