dSLB20 LED Hazardous Area Signal Light

Product: dSLB20 LED

![]()
Certification, temperature classification and hazardous area suitability depend on the selected product configuration.
The Eaton FHF dSLB20 LED is a robust optical signalling device for warning, notification and status indication in potentially explosive areas.
Four operating-mode families are available: steady, blinking, strobe and electronically rotating light. The required mode is selected within the unit, enabling the signal light to support different alarm and process-signalling requirements.
The dSLB20 LED consists of a flameproof aluminium housing with a hardened borosilicate glass dome. Its terminal compartment uses increased-safety protection, providing a combined Ex d e construction.
Certified variants are suitable for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 and provide IP66/IP67 ingress protection for indoor and outdoor installations.
This product may also appear in legacy project specifications as the MEDC dSLB20 LED.

Eaton FHF dSLB20 LED Signal Light
The dSLB20 LED signal light provides optical warning, notification and status signalling in hazardous area installations.
High-performance LEDs produce a defined visual signal in steady, blinking, strobe or electronically rotating modes. The selected operating mode is configured using a rotary selector within the unit.
The robust aluminium enclosure is designed for continuous operation and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. IP66/IP67 protection supports installation across demanding industrial, process, marine and offshore environments.
Available supply options include 24V DC, selected 48V DC configurations and a wide-range 85–265V AC version.
There’s also a Eaton FHF dSLB20 xenon strobe version.

dSLB20 LED Operating Modes
The dSLB20 LED is designed for continuous operation across all available signal modes. The required pattern is selected using the internal rotary switch.
Steady Light
Continuous visual indication for persistent warnings, equipment condition or process status.
Blinking Light
A 2Hz blinking signal for a clearly changing optical warning pattern.
Strobe Light
Seven rapid light pulses followed by an approximately one-second break. Several selector positions provide the strobe function.
Electronically Rotating Light
Two electronically rotating patterns are available: approximately 44 rotations per minute using one illuminated segment or approximately 33 rotations per minute using two segments.
| Selector Position | Operating Mode | Signal Pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Steady | Continuous light |
| 1 | Blinking | 2Hz blinking light |
| 2 | Strobe | Factory-delivered strobe setting |
| 3 | Rotating Light 1 | Approximately 44 rotations/minute; one LED segment illuminated |
| 4 | Rotating Light 2 | Approximately 33 rotations/minute; two LED segments illuminated |
| 5–9 / A–F | Strobe | Additional strobe selector positions |
Hazardous Area Certification
Certified dSLB20 LED configurations are suitable for explosive gas and combustible-dust atmospheres. The complete marking and ambient-temperature range should be confirmed against the ordered product and current certification.

Housing and Construction
The dSLB20 LED electronics are contained within a compact flameproof aluminium enclosure. The housing is surface-varnished or powder-coated and is normally supplied in a yellow and blue finish.
A hardened borosilicate glass dome protects the LED assembly. A stainless-steel protection cage surrounds the glass to help protect it from accidental impact.
The separate terminal compartment uses increased-safety protection. This allows the incoming supply conductors to be terminated outside the flameproof electronics compartment.
The unit can be installed indoors or outdoors and can operate in any mounting orientation. A wall-mounting bracket is incorporated into the enclosure.

Available Voltages
The Eaton FHF dSLB20 LED is available in DC and wide-range AC versions. Power consumption varies according to supply voltage, operating mode and LED colour.
| Supply | Voltage | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| DC | 24V DC ±20% | Available across the standard colour-code ordering system |
| DC | 48V DC | Available in selected configurations |
| AC | 85–265V AC | Wide-range AC supply version |
Indicative Current Consumption
The ranges below cover the available LED colours. Confirm the exact value for the required colour and product code.
| Operating Mode | 24V DC | 120V AC | 230V AC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steady / Blinking | Approximately 550–870mA | Approximately 190–280mA | Approximately 125–170mA |
| Strobe | Approximately 1.2–1.6A | Approximately 280–420mA | Approximately 180–230mA |
| Rotating Light 1 | Approximately 190–280mA | Approximately 80–120mA | Approximately 60–70mA |
| Rotating Light 2 | Approximately 250–380mA | Approximately 100–135mA | Approximately 70–85mA |
Lens Colours
Available cap colours include transparent, red, amber, green and blue. The transparent cap is used with a white LED output.
The required signal colour should be selected according to the site alarm philosophy, equipment-status system or project specification.
| Signal Colour | Cap Code | Approximate Optical Output |
|---|---|---|
| White / Transparent | 01 | Approximately 24cd |
| Red | 02 | Approximately 31cd |
| Amber | 03 | Approximately 13cd |
| Green | 04 | Approximately 53cd |
| Blue | 05 | Approximately 17cd |

Eaton FHF dSLB20 LED FAQs
What operating modes does the dSLB20 LED provide?
The signal light provides steady, blinking, strobe and electronically rotating operating modes. Two rotating-light patterns are available.
Is the dSLB20 LED a mechanically rotating beacon?
No. The rotating effect is created electronically by illuminating LED segments in sequence. It does not use a mechanically rotating reflector.
Which hazardous area zones can the dSLB20 LED be used in?
Certified configurations are available for gas Zones 1 and 2 and combustible-dust Zones 21 and 22. The complete product marking must be checked before installation.
Can the dSLB20 LED be installed outdoors?
Yes. The enclosure provides IP66/IP67 ingress protection and is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, subject to correct cable-entry selection and installation.
What is the difference between Ex d and Ex e construction on this product?
The electronics are contained within a flameproof aluminium housing, while the separate terminal compartment uses increased-safety protection. The product therefore combines the two protection concepts.
Which dSLB20 LED colours are available?
Available signal options include white light through a transparent cap, red, amber, green and blue.
How is the operating mode selected?
The mode is selected using a rotary switch located on the internal circuit board. Adjustment must be carried out by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
