Certification, temperature classification and hazardous area suitability vary by model and configuration.
The MEDC FB11 and FL11 are steady visual signalling devices designed for potentially explosive gas and dust atmospheres and harsh environmental conditions.
The FB11 uses a filament lamp, while the FL11 uses fluorescent lighting. Both models are housed in UV-stable glass-reinforced polyester, providing a lightweight and corrosion-resistant enclosure suitable for demanding onshore and offshore installations.
Available configurations include Ex db flameproof—commonly described as Ex d—and weatherproof versions. The precise certification, operating temperature, voltage and lamp arrangement depend on the selected model.
The FB11 and FL11 can be supplied with different lens colours, mounting arrangements, cable entries, finishes and accessories to meet project-specific signalling requirements.

MEDC FB11 & FL11 Steady Beacon Range
The Eaton MEDC FB11 and FL11 provide continuous visual indication for hazardous area alarm, warning and equipment-status applications.
Both variants use a compact cylindrical enclosure manufactured from UV-stable glass-reinforced polyester. The cover incorporates a glass lens and is secured using stainless-steel screws. An optional protective guard and mounting backstrap are available.
The GRP construction combines low weight with corrosion resistance, supporting installation in demanding onshore, offshore, marine and industrial environments.
Available options include multiple voltages, lens colours, enclosure finishes, mounting arrangements, identification labels and earth-continuity accessories.

MEDC FB11 Filament Beacon
The MEDC FB11 beacon uses a 10W filament lamp with an SBC lamp holder to provide a continuous visual signal.
Available voltage configurations include 24V DC, 48V DC and selected AC supplies from 110V to 254V. The exact voltage, certification and temperature classification must be confirmed when ordering.
Selected FB11 versions are available for ATEX and IECEx applications, weatherproof installations and North American hazardous-location requirements.
MEDC FL11 Fluorescent Beacon
The MEDC FL11 beacon uses a fluorescent light source to provide steady visual indication.
A 5W fluorescent arrangement is available for selected 24V DC configurations, providing a nominal light output of 250 lumens. A 10W fluorescent arrangement is available for selected 240V AC configurations, providing a nominal light output of 600 lumens.
The certified ambient range can extend below the published operating range. Product selection should therefore be based on the complete ordered configuration, current certification and manufacturer operating instructions.

Hazardous Area Certification
The FB11 and FL11 are available with hazardous area certification for explosive gas and combustible-dust atmospheres. The applicable marking depends on the selected lamp, voltage, temperature classification and product configuration.
When installed in a dust atmosphere, certified cable-entry devices and stopping plugs must maintain the IP6X integrity of the enclosure.
The equipment is also subject to a potential electrostatic charging hazard. Installation and maintenance must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Temperature Ratings
The permitted ambient temperature depends on the model, lamp power and required temperature class. The values below relate to certified configurations; the manufacturer’s published operating range and product instructions must also be observed.
| Model | Lamp Power | Temperature Class | Temperature Marking | Certified Ambient Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FB11 | 10W | T4 | T110°C | –55°C to +70°C |
| T5 | T85°C | –55°C to +55°C | ||
| T6 | T70°C | –55°C to +40°C | ||
| FL11 | 10W | T4 | T110°C | –55°C to +70°C |
| T5 | T85°C | –55°C to +55°C | ||
| T6 | T70°C | –55°C to +40°C | ||
| FL11 | 5W | T5 | T85°C | –55°C to +70°C |
| T6 | T70°C | –55°C to +55°C |
Eaton’s product overview states an FL11 operating range of –20°C to +70°C. Do not specify operation below –20°C without confirming the exact product configuration and current manufacturer documentation.
