As part of BS EN378 Andel have supplied and installed a major refrigerant gas leak detection system across 7 floors of a new London office block monitoring all air conditioning units and associated pipework for any refrigerant gas leak within office areas and alerting staff with both local and centralised alarms.
Andel Refrigerant Gas Sensors
BS EN378 specifies the installation of fixed refrigerant leak detectors in both existing and new systems, especially where there is more than 300kg of refrigerant within the system.
Refrigerant Gas DetectION USING Floodline FGS1000
Andel’s Floodline FGS1000 Refrigerant Gas Detector can be used either alone or within a Floodline leak detection system to provide an audible and visual alarm in the event of a gas being detected.
The FGS1000 sensors are provided to detect a predetermined gas as specified by the client and are calibrated with 1000 ppm gas to air mixture and complies with BS EN378 regulations and detects refrigerant gases to HSE Occupational Exposure Limits.
The sensitivity controls are calibrated with 1000 ppm gas to air mixture using the specified gas (R134A, R404A, R407C, R410A). Other gases can be accommodated subject to calibration.

Andel FSG1000 Refrigerant Gas Leak Detection Sensor
The Andel FGS1000 Gas Sensor constantly monitors the area for any build up of the specific refrigerant gas above a preset level and in the event of a leak above the preset levels is detected, audio/visual warnings are given by a pulsing 85dB sounder along with amber LED and red LED for the detector status.
On every floor of the 7 storey office block adjacent to A/C Units, one FGS1000 detector has been installed at 100mm above floor level, calibrated to 1000 ppm of R407C refrigerant gas.
A Floodline 128 control system monitors all 7 refrigerant gas sensors individually allowing the client to easily identify the zoned area affected.
Additionally, refrigerant gas sensors are installed within plant rooms and machine rooms and monitored by the same Floodline 128 control panel.

T&D – Andel Water Leak Detection Systems
By Chris Dodds : estimated reading time 2 minutes
Water Leak Detection systems are often installed within Museums & Art Galleries to provide an early warning system before major damage can be caused to valuable and even priceless antiques and works of art displayed within the building.
In historic and heritage buildings, services such as heating & cooling pipework are difficult to maintain and therefore cannot be protected against serious or damaging leaks. Plant rooms, roof spaces and basements are considered to be the principal sources of leaks in these types of buildings. Leak detection systems can be used to continually monitor for the presence of leaks and raise an alarm for action to be carried out.
Water leaks cause downtime, disruption and destruction
Andel’s award winning Floodline Leak Detection equipment has been installed in many Art Galleries and Museums such as Tate (Britain & Modern), British Museum (Great Court), Manchester Museum and the National Museum of Scotland to protect against potentially damaging leaks from water services.
Andel’s leak detection equipment includes a full range of control panels, leak sensing cables and sensors which together forms a leak sensing zone around an area.
Andel Floodline Leak Detection System
Leak sensing cable can be applied directly to pipes or run on, or behind, display cabinets.Where sensing cable could be damaged, Andel have a full range of Floodline sensors including point sensors to monitor the area.
Andel’s Control Panels are installed to suit the application, either small stand-alone single zone systems, or much larger multi-zone panels up to 128 zones, offering the capability for reporting back to central BMS monitoring systems using either volt-free contacts or RS232/485 Comms.

Water leak detection systems provide essential area monitoring for data centres and raise an alarm in the incident of a water leak occurring.
Data Centres, Exchanges and Switch Centres provide a critical service relied upon by millions of subscribers in their day to day business and life. Continuity of service is not only essential to users but also vital in terms of revenue to their operators.
Data or communications centres are built to the latest designs employing up to the minute features and technologies. Mile upon mile of data, network and power cable is installed under raised access floors where it can be organised and routed safely out of sight.
This void also contains water service pipes feeding A/C units, toilets, kitchens and more, all of which could leak and cause damage to electrical systems. Water leak detection systems can provide an early warning to developing issues before damage can occur.
Andel Floodline leak detection systems are chosen as the best, most reliable and cost-effective option by many of the world’s most prestigious “blue-chip” organisations. In the UK companies such as BT, HSBC, Orange, Global Switch, ICM Group, Airbus Industries, Norwich Union, GSK, National Grid and many others are regular end users of Floodline leak detection systems.
Water Leak – A Major Downtime Threat For Data Centre Operators
Special leak detection cable or pad and point sensors are installed floor voids in a design or pattern to provide the best coverage. Pipe-joints and connections are particularly sensitive so sensors are clipped to the floor directly around the ‘footprint’ of each unit or beneath the whole length of pipe work. Point sensors can be targeted at specific items or areas.
Andel Floodline Leak Detection System
Where pipes run at high level or there are roof valley gutters and down pipes, drip trays are suspended below pipes and gutters with leak detection cable running the entire length or point sensors installed at a low end.
Andel’s leak detection systems can zoned to allow quick and accurate location of the leak. Below is an example of how leak detection zones can be designed.
Andel Floodline Leak Detection Sample Zone Diagram
Each A/C unit is allocated a separate ‘Zone’ and runs of water pipe are sub-divided into a number of ‘Zones’ usually 5-10m in length to help isolate the leak to a convenient length.
Point sensors are installed in plant rooms with solid floors to monitor for a build-up or ‘pooling’ of water from leaking equipment, water tanks, booster sets and pumps etc.
All areas are monitored either by individual local Floodline Control Panels or a centrally located Floodline Control Panel. Options include small, stand–alone systems or larger multi–zone control panels. All Floodline systems provide connections for the BMS or other remote monitoring via volt-free contacts or RS232/485 communication protocols.
Zoned leak detection systems are available for up to 128 zones and are flexible to allow for the monitoring of all areas of concern such as toilets, tea points, vending machines, water fountains, kitchens and services risers using the most suitable method for the area.
