When to use hazardous area lighting?

Hazardous area lighting refers to lighting fixtures that are designed and certified for use in areas where there is a risk of fire or explosion due to the presence of flammable gases, vapours, liquids or combustible dust. These areas can include industrial settings such as oil refineries, chemical plants, and coal mines, as well as offshore drilling platforms and marine vessels.

Hazardous area lighting fixtures are designed to prevent the ignition of flammable substances and to operate safely in the presence of them. They are constructed with sturdy and durable materials and employ special features like sealed enclosures, explosion-proof housing, and specialised lenses that help prevent sparks from igniting flammable substances.
