VEGAPULS 62 Non Contact Radar Level Sensor
In the metal processing industry once the process of tapping the blast furnace is complete the raw iron flows into a vessel before being taken to the converter to be further processed. The vessels contents need to be measured effectively, but this is a difficult operation due to extremely high temperatures (over 1400°C) and the high amounts of steam and dust present. Therefore the only suitable solution is a non contact radar level measurement.
Solution – VEGAPLUS 62 Non Contact Radar Level Sensor
VEGAPULS 62 non contact radar level sensor is the optimal solution as it is unaffected by high temperatures and highly accurate when measuring the steel pans contents even though the torpedo car only has little openings. When the pan is filled the antenna systems remain clean by a rinsing air connection that is undeterred by extreme sparks or dust generation. The ability to angle the antenna extension enables the VEGAPULS 62 non contact radar level sensors to work effectively in crowded conditions.

Application – VEGAPULS 68 Non Contact Radar Level Sensor
In the metal processing industry distributing the coke and batch level correctly is often difficult as the blast furnace operating conditions are particularly tough. A specific level measurement is required. In the past heavy mechanical plumb line systems were used, but a more modern solution is necessary nowadays.
Solution – VEGAPULS 68 Non Contact Radar Level Sensor
A VEGAPULS 68 non contact radar level sensor is the ideal solution as it can still deliver the necessary instructions on the charging process in the blast furnace, regardless of extreme temperatures, composition of materials and dust particles. Numerous non contact radar level sensors can analyse the surface profile when required without interfering with one another. The size of the VEGAPULS 68 non contact radar level sensor’s antenna determines the scope that can be covered and the sensor can be detached at anytime during operation.

VEGAFLEX 82 Guided Wave Radar Level Measurement
In the quarrying and aggregates industry in order for building materials to be processed, they are transported in silos to the construction site. Automatic reliable level measurement is required to make sure there is always enough material in the silos.
Solution – VEGAFLEX 82 Guided Wave Radar Level Sensor
VEGAFLEX 82 guided wave radar level sensor is the ideal solution as the guided wave radar level measurement reliably measures the level in the transport silo regardless of medium’s composition.
Guided wave radar level sensors are instantly ready for use after the silo is set up as the bottom of the container has a heavy duty cable secured to it. It can incorporate a GSM module to remotely send the data on the contents to a central transport department to optimise supply and delivery.

Non-Contact Radar Sensor Used In The Wastewater Treatment Process – Application
A top British sports car manufacturer wanted to ensure a perfect finish on all vehicles and that all processes in the automotive painting plant ran smoothly.
The most important part of the wastewater treatment process is in the settling tank where the flushed out solids are removed. Any flaws in this process could determent the quality of the paint job. All wastewater is recycled in an environmentally-friendly closed circuit system.
The painting wastewater is heavily mixed with solids so two powerful feed pumps are required to fill the tank which allows the unpurified wastewater to move downwards at the same time.
The solids sink to the bottom and are pumped out of the settling tank before they are disposed of. The clean aerated water flows over which ultimately is placed back into the paint shop for reuse.
Non-Contact Radar Sensor Used In The Wastewater Treatment Process – Solution
VEGAPULS WL 61 radar level sensor was identified as an ideal solution for fast level monitoring in the wastewater treatment process. The settling tank shoots out 140,000 litres of wastewater every minute and the surface can often form a thick sticky foam. VEGAPULS WL 61 radar level sensor’s high accuracy allows the regulation of the inflow fresh water to compensate for evaporation.
VEGAPULS WL 61 Radar Level Sensor – Features/Advantages

- Plastic encapsulated sensor with IP 68 rating well suited to harsh environments
- Heavy foam no influence on the accuracy of the level measurement
- Highly accurate/reliable to millimetre precision
- Cost savings and work safety thanks to automatic, unattended operation

Non-Contact Level Measurement & Wireless Measurement Data Transmission In Chemical Storage Tank Farm – Application
A transhipment storage facility for chemicals known as Leatransa just off the port of Castellón needed a suitable temporary storage solution for liquids and aggressive products such as sulphuric and phosphoric acid.
Eight tanks are present in the tank farm ranging in size from 10-30 metres. A suitable level measuring system needed to be found to ensure the emptying and filling of the tanks was cost effective and accurate.
The different sized tanks make level measurement more difficult as well as contending with the constantly changing media and their measurement properties.
When thinking of a suitable solution they had to take into consideration that signal line installation would be effected by the streets and buildings located between the storage tanks and control room.
Non-Contact Level Measurement & Wireless Measurement Data Transmission In Chemical Storage Tank Farm – Application
VEGA provided an ideal solution for Leatransa as it could provide a suitable level measuring system that’s all inclusive. The VEGA system consists of non-contact level measurement, on-site indication with overfill alarm and wireless transmission of measured values.
The complete system consisted of VEGAPULS 61 and VEGAPULS 63 radar sensors (depending on the medium and size of the individual tank), VEGAMET 381 signal conditioning instruments and PLICSRADIO T61/R61 transceiver units.
PLICSRADIO C62 signal conditioning units were also installed to collect the measurement data and make it available to networks for remote enquiry and visualisation.
This solution allows effective operation in the tank farm to take place as well as having control over all logistical processes.
The cost and easy installation of the sensors that could be simply mounted to the tanks without having to empty them first were definitely deciding factors. However the wireless data transmission sealed the deal as no cable had to be laid.

Pressure Sensor Application – Pressure Measurement In Buffer Tanks

T&D offer a range of Sick pressure sensor & pressure transmitter equipment for use within pressure measurement applications. Accurate pressure measurement if is vital importance in the buffer tanks of filling machines for carbonated beverages.
Pressure sensors can be used to help to maintain the correct liquid pressure. The Sick PHT pressure transmitter has a hygienic design and easy cleanability which are key requirements for the safe and economic operation of the filling machine.
The filling of carbonated beverages requires pressurisation of the beverage and the bottles or cans to avoid foam generation due to expanding carbon dioxide. Smooth filling at high throughput requires precise pressure control.
Sick pressure transmitters can be used to achieve this goal, in particular the PHT pressure transmitter can be used.
The PHT pressure transmitter has flush-mounted stainless steel membranes and a large range of hygienic process connectors to ensure it is perfectly suited to demanding sanitary applications in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry.
The PHT has enhanced process temperatures, resistance to corrosive media, cavity-free design. The pressure sensor is also well suited for CIP and SIP processes allowing for its stainless steel housing to be easily cleaned.
PHT Pressure Transmitter Benefits
- Safe hygienic operation through hygienically graded design and materials
