T&D are now able to offer low voltage heating jackets within our IBC heaterproduct ranges. The low voltage jackets provide consistent heating across the full surface area of the IBC but using either a 24V or 48V voltage.
Included within the selection of low voltage IBC jackets are the Ultra range. The Ultra Low Voltage IBC Heating Jacket range provides a high temperature heating solution using a 48V output voltage from either a 230V or 110V supply for ultimate safety.
Despite using a low voltage the heating capabilities of the Ultra IBC jacket is not diminished, utilising a patented carbon polymer material the jacket provides uniform heating with high thermal transfer.
Additionally the Ultra IBC jacket is constructed with extra thick insulation which allows the heated surface area to rapidly raise the temperature of the container whilst preventing the heat from escaping from the exterior of the jacket. An unheated insulated PVC lid is also provided to eliminated heat loss through the top of the container.
Ultra IBC jackets have a controllable temperature up to 90ºC and are chemical and water resistant. T&D are able to provide low voltage IBC heating jackets to suit standard size Schutz, Pallecon 3, Ragus and Francis Ward type IBC’s.

Raytec Named As Finalist For Intelligent Emergency
Emergency Lighting
Raytec is pleased to reveal that their Intelligent Emergency lighting have been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2019 EIC (Energy Industries Council) National Awards for the Technology category.
Emergency Ex lighting plays an important role in maintaining the safety of hazardous area zones and locations, and the well-being of those who work in them, by providing back-up illumination and lighting when the primary power source fails.
Hazardous areas are often located in high-risk environments with unstable power sources which make the need for an effective emergency hazardous area lighting solution absolutely critical to achieving the highest levels of safety on site.
The EIC National Awards recognise the work done by EIC members to grow and flourish both at home and abroad. Award entries are welcome from all EIC member companies.
Emergency Ex lighting plays a vita part in preserving the safety in a hazardous area in the event emergency situation occurs. At Raytec know the importance of designing a product that checks and indicates the health of the luminaire efficiently, decreasing all time and costs associated with maintaining the luminaire.
SPARTAN Intelligent Emergency range presents an innovative automatic testing function that is programmed to cycle the batteries, checks the health functionality of the emergency lighting and communicates this via an LED indicator. This product performs three different testing procedures to ensure the luminaire is operating correctly and the emergency battery system is functioning at its optimum level.
All our SPARTAN Intelligent Emergency lighting can maintain 100% light output in emergency mode for up to three hours and are available in both SPARTAN Linear and SPARTAN Bulkhead ranges.
“We’re thrilled that Intelligent Emergency has been shortlisted as a finalist in the EIC awards. By making Ex luminaires easier to maintain, more reliable, and ultimately safer, we believe Intelligent Emergency is the future of emergency lighting in hazardous areas” Comments Barry Thompson, Raytec’s Director of Hazardous Area Division.
SPARTAN Intelligent Emergency luminaires are the first of its kind on the market, taking innovation, safety and performance of emergency luminaires to the next level!
There are three things to consider when choosing an intelligent emergency luminaire:

How Changing To Wolf Airlamps Significantly Reduces Downtime At US Mine
uploaded by Chris Dodds - Sales & Marketing Manager Thorne & Derrick
Wolf Airlamps
ATEX Turbolite
T&D are Main Distributors for Wolf Hazardous Area Lighting – this includes the complete range of hazardous area Wolf Airlampsforming part of their portable and temporary lighting range. The airlamps are certified according to ATEX for safe use in hazardous areas Zone 1 & Zone 2 (Gas) and Zone 21 & Zone 22 (Dust).
“Changing from electric lights to Airlamps has reduced downtime and increased efficiency at the mine substantially.” Jim Reeves, Safety Lamp of Houston.
Climax Molybdenum Co, is part of Freeport-McMoRan, one of world’s largest molybdenum producer and supplier. Molybdenum is a silvery-white metal that is ductile and highly resistant to corrosion.
They have a mine in Henderson, Colorado where they extract and transport Molybdenum by conveyor system 15 miles through the mountain to the mill for processing. Molybdenum is used in a variety of metallurgical and chemical products.
Electric cables coming from the main shaft and through to electric lights used to illuminate the tunnels for mucking operations. Unfortunately the electric cables were often damaged causing the lights to no longer work resulting in delays in production time and costly replacements using expensive copper wire.
Safety Lamp of Houston(Wolf Safety’s partner in USA) were approached by Climax Molybdenum Co to find a more cost effective solution to the problem
Safety Lamp of Houston decided on the Wolf Turbolite airlamps providing a reliable and versatile hazardous area lighting solution – a high powered compressed air driven lamp with a light output of up to 9,000 lumens.
Hooks are also present so the airlamps can be screwed onto or suspended from the roof of the tunnels, attached to a folding tripod and plugged in to the supply hose. The hose doesn’t need to be removed during blasting and if it does get cut jointing back together wouldn’t take long at all eliminating expensive production downtime.
Wolf ATEX Turbolites
One issue that could be encountered is the risk of condensation which is caused by the air compressing at 12,000 feet and sending it down metal ductile pipes for nearly a mile into the ground where the temperature is as cool as 10°C which has the potential to cause rust and risk damage to the light.
The problem was combated by installing a double filter unit to each lamp between the connection to the light and connection to air hose. When the bulbs are replaced this is the perfect opportunity to clean the filters. As new operations were opened up, the ATEX Turbolite, which has a sealed bearing, was purchased and used to further reduce the risk of rust and extend the life of the lamp.
The Climax Henderson mine continues to use Wolf Airlamps and since 2009 has purchased nearly 150 Turbolites and ATEX Turbolites. They have trained personnel on site to maintain the lights.

BASF Petronas Chemicals in Malaysia required a hazardous area lighting solution for their production facility. The specification presented to Wolf by the oil and gas multi-national was a low cost explosionproof lamp solution that minimised downtime caused by how often the bulb needed changing and that required a strong enough light output as the current lamps often had to be used in conjunction with other lighting.
Wolf’s distributor of 10 years+ ETD Makmur (M) SDN BHD in Malaysia suggested the SP-600 ATEX LED Inspection Leadlamp as an alternative to the current low cost explosion proof lamps that were being used inspection and maintenance tasks in the facility. The Wolf SP-600 would increase production efficiency as well as providing an increased light output.
“Changing to the SP-600 from our previous lamp has led to significant increases in efficiency as we no longer have to stop work and leave the area to change the bulb. Our new lamp is also lighter, brighter and easier to hold.” Supervisor, BASF Petronas Chemicals, Malaysia who produce and market chemicals for the following industries textiles, paint and automotive.
Wolf ATEX LED Leadlamp
SP-600 ATEX LED Inspection Leadlamp was presented to BASF Petronas where the benefits were clearly identified: high quality, even & ultra-wide angle LED light, 470 lumen high power ‘fitted for life’ LED light source, robust and highly durable enclosure to withstand heavy industrial use yet still lightweight and compact for handheld use, ATEX and IECEx approved for Zone 1 & 2 and 21 & 22 explosive gas and dust atmospheres and has an ingress protection rating of IP67.
Following a probation period, during which the users at the facility voiced their delight at the reduced weight, user friendly handle and the 360° swivel hook allowing hands-free operation, ETD were able to show the overall efficiency cost savings due to the reduced downtime. This resulted in the customer purchasing 11 units with a follow up order for 20 units 12 months later.
The SP-600 ATEX LED Inspection Leadlamp is available in High, Low, and Extra Low Voltage options.
