ATEX Floodlights
Ex LED Crane Floodlight
Raytec have extended their Ex LED range of lighting fittings for hazardous areas with the launch of SPARTAN Crane, an LED technology ATEX floodlight luminaire mounted on a rotating damper. SPARTAN Crane is specifically designed crane floodlight for use on Marine/Offshore Crane booms where high performance, high reliability White-Light illumination is required to ensure the safety of crane operations.
Using Raytec’s field-proven, long-life LED technology, SPARTAN Crane Luminaires are ATEX and IEC Ex approved for all Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous area lighting applications and rated for T4 environments. Also available as an industrial variant, SPARTAN Crane Luminaire is suitable for a diverse range of applications and comes with an industry leading 5 year warranty as standard.
Using largely the same design components as the Raytec SPARTAN Flood means that the Crane can also offer the same performance advantages including a long lifetime of 100,000+ hours without the need for relamping and a unique modular design that makes maintenance far easier if required in hazardous area and potentially explosive atmospheres.
SPARTAN Crane also benefits from the same marine grade aluminium body used on the standard SPARTAN Floodlights, designed to withstand the harsh environments ATEX lighting are commonly exposed to.
A stainless steel rotary damper ensures the SPARTAN Crane always illuminates the area directly below the crane and prevents the luminaire swinging as the crane boom moves up and down. While all LEDs are naturally resistant to vibration the SPARTAN Crane luminaire features LEDs and power supplies which are encapsulated in a silicone rubber compound to deliver outstanding resistance to vibration.

Appleton Rigmaster The Hazardous Area LED Linear Light Fitting

Appleton Rigmaster
Hazardous Area LED Linear Light Fitting
Appleton ATX introduces a new solution for the oil and gas industry to easily and safely provide lighting for hazardous areas and land-based drilling rigs. Emerson’s Appleton Rigmaster LED linear hazardous area lighting is the industry’s lightest and easiest to install linear light fitting.
The Appleton Rigmaster forms part of the explosion proof lighting range that streamlines the cumbersome and time-consuming task of installing and maintaining bright, energy-efficient lighting in hazardous areas on drilling rigs.
“Rig maintenance workers require linear luminaires that are rugged and long lasting yet compact and easy-to-install, which can be a difficult solution to find for the engineers responsible for designing rig electrical systems,” said Mustafa Bengali, Hazardous Area Lighting Product manager for Emerson Automation Solutions. “The Appleton Rigmaster solves these challenges by integrating LED technology into a lightweight, low-profile package that performs durably, is resistant to harsh conditions and damaging vibrations, yet allows faster, safer installations throughout the drilling rig.”
Minimal weight is a top priority for rig hands that must climb a derrick hundreds of feet high to install or change a fixture. The Appleton Rigmaster LED weighs a mere 10 lbs., making it significantly lighter than similar fixtures that can weigh as much as 30 lbs.
Although compact, it delivers 8000 lumens of uniform lighting to promote a safer working environment. Even when used under a canopy or inside an analyzer house, the diffused lens option makes the Rigmaster LED an ideal solution for comfortable, no-glare illumination.

Hazardous Area LED Linear Light Fitting
Features
Some benefits of the the Appleton Rigmaster:
Light weight light fitting and low profile design makes installation easy even in compact spaces
Hinged wire box cover with captive screws for easy installation and maintenance of hazardous area lighting
Five safety retention points to secure fixture and enhance workplace safety
Mounting brackets support numerous bolt patterns to facilitate retrofit installation of the light fittings
Wirenuts and screw type terminal block options provide added wiring flexibility
Notched position locking mechanism for aiming consistency
Industry-leading thermal management for safe, reliable operation over wide temperature range
Two 3/4” NPT hubs on each side for thru wiring. (1) 3/4″ NPT close up plug provided
Field replaceable LED driver and lens
60,000+ hours LED life for years of maintenance free operation of linear light fittings
Appleton Rigmaster
Rigmaster Light Fittings
Moreover, the Rigmaster LED’s wide distribution of light translates into fewer fixtures being needed in the rig’s mud pit, shaker, cellar and derrick. High efficiency LED drivers consume less than half the energy of standard T8 fluorescent light fixtures, further lowering direct cost of operations and minimizing strain on the diesel generators that typically power drilling rigs.
Along with being lightweight, the Appleton Rigmaster LED provides installation flexibility in hazardous area locations by offering a variety of mounting options that are well suited for retrofits as well as new rig builds. An easy to access hinged wiring compartment with captive hardware makes the installation experience smooth and safe.
A wide operating temperature range of -40° to 65° C, and NPT (National Pipe Thread Tapered) hubs on each end for through wiring make this fixture a user-centric solution. To complete the package, an LED life of 60,000+ hours means years of maintenance-free operation, unlike fluorescents that may fail in six months or less and require constant maintenance.
Given safety concerns due to round-the-clock, high vibration boring, secondary retention of a hazardous area light fixture on drilling rigs is critical to prevent it from plunging from a high-rise mast.
To help create a safer workplace environment, the Appleton Rigmaster LED features a looping safety cable through the fixture and around the mounting structure which helps secure the fixture. In addition, while some manufacturers screw on eyebolts, the Appleton Rigmaster LED provides five casted-in openings for safety cable retention points.
The yoke bracket is also designed to ensure the bracket will stay in position regardless of heavy vibration and maintain its structural integrity. To take it a step further, captive hardware eliminates the possibility of a screw coming loose and falling out.
Built with a high degree of corrosion resistance, the Appleton Rigmaster LED features a gasketed, copper-free aluminum housing, plus a thermal-shock and impact-resistant polycarbonate lens. It is certified for Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations, National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Type 3R, 4 and 4X wet and marine type areas. The fixture also meets IP66 rating requirements of being “dust tight” and protected against powerful jets of water.
