A technology without equivalent …
Marechal® Decontactor™
The only electrical connector that combines a connector and a switch. Its unique technology allows you to connect and disconnect electrical connectors from 5 A to 250 A on load.
Butt contact on a silver-nickel tip
The Marechal® Decontactor™ and connectors are all fitted with butt contacts with silver-nickel tips. They provide exceptional connection quality by eliminating the damage due to electric arcs and to wear seen with pin and sleeve sockets. The silver is an excellent conductor of current even when oxidized. Conductivity is optimal even in the presence of vibration and temperature variation thanks to the pressure of the springs.
Crimped braids
The Marechal® contact uses a crimped braid with a spring which provides contact performance and tolerances superior to pin and sleeve contacts. The flexibility of the braid and the spring allows the base contact tip to always be perfectly aligned with the plug contact tip. These contacts, which are silver and anti-corrosion treated, offer very good corrosion resistance.
Elastic lock terminals
Marechal® contacts are fitted with ‘elastic lock’ connection terminals. The wire clamp is split and surrounded by a rubber ring. This method allows the tightening force on the wire to be constant. Hence despite the creep of the copper or aluminium, the variations of temperature and vibration, the conductor wire is perfectly connected to the contact terminal.
Safety shutter
Decontactor™ bases are fitted with an interlocked safety shutter which prevents access to live contacts. This shutter only unlocks at the time of connection of the plug into its base.
Marechal® range connectors and Decontactors™ have casings made from fibre glass- or metal-reinforced GRP, depending on the models. This choice of material contributes to the excellent mechanical performance and longevity of the socket.
Out With The Old, In With The New.Contact T&D to arrange a UK site demonstration or survey of your power distribution requirement. No obligation. No cost.
Economy of installation: dual-voltage
With a single base (e.g.: 3Â Pnt – 230/400 V) it is possible to feed three plugs indifferently:
a 3 Pnt – 230/400Â V plug
a 3 Pnt – 400 V plug
a Pnt – 230/400Â V plug
This compatibility provides real savings on the installation of these sockets for the user.
Benefits:
These technical choices provide Marechal® connectors and Decontactors™ with unparalleled performance:
Absolute safety after thousands of connections/disconnections,
The ability to withstand repeated overloads, particularly on power supplies to motors with frequent starting,
Perfect operation in the presence of vibration and variations in temperatures,
Resistance to shocks, falls and climatic variations,
A perfect resistance to corrosion and the most severe chemical agents.

In many situations, workers must perform pre-entry gas detection checks, to make sure that a confined space is safe before entering. This is often a requirement arising from risk assessment or to allow the issuing of permits to work, or is simply needed because the area is inherently risky.
Whatever the reason, using a pumped device in conjunction with a sampling tube is a great way to perform pre-entry checks to check that a confined space is safe before entry.
An alternative way to detect gases in confined spaces is to lower a portable gas detectorinto the work area.
gas Detecting in confined spaces
Before You Begin
However, taking measurements in this way brings its own set of challenges and dangers, and when using Crowcon products in pumped or manual sampling modes, all operators should take care to follow these instructions:
It is strongly recommended that, before proceeding, a function check is performed using the pump and sample tube with the gas/vapour to be detected.
To reduce the risk of absorption of the gas/vapour in the sample tube, ensure the temperature of the sampling tube is above the flashpoint temperature of the target vapour.
Ensure the monitor is correctly calibrated for the target gas/vapour.
Only use the sample tube supplied by Crowcon. It is strongly recommended that ‘reactive gas tubing’ is used for sampling gases/vapours that are likely to be adsorbed (for example, toluene, chlorine, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, ozone, hydrogen chloride, NOx).
Keep the sample tube length as short as possible.
Please allow sufficient time for the gas/vapour to reach the sensor; allow at least 3 seconds per metre plus the normal T90 response time of the sensor (typically 30–40 seconds).
Detecting Reactive Gases
In addition, please note that some of the gases that can be measured by Crowcon gas detection products are classified as ‘reactive’ gases.
A reactive gas will react with, or be absorbed by, the material(s) with which it comes into contact. As a result, the gas concentration reaching the sensor can be reduced, leading to an incorrect reading.
The following list includes some (but not all) reactive gases, which are listed with the appropriate calibration gas. Please contact Crowcon for specific gas concentration information and cross-calibration values).
âž¡ T&D also stock and distribute a broad range of hazardous area equipment for use in confined spaces.
It is very important that the appropriate accessories and precautions are applied when measuring, calibrating or bump testing sensors that are targeting reactive gasses.
When taking sample measurements: Use Teflon, FEP or PTFE tubing; the tube length must be kept as short as possible (<50 cm), avoid connectors and unions and allow the sample to flow through the regulator/pipe for at least 3 minutes, for initial absorption to occur, before attempting to get a reading.
When calibrating the above points apply in addition to the following:
• The recommended gas flow-rate is 0.5 litres per minute.
• Gas generators are recommended, instead of gas cylinders, for some very unstable gases, especially where very low ppm concentrations are required.
• Use only stainless steel regulators for cylinder gas.
• Ensure the correct calibration adaptor is used, appropriate to the specific product.
Following the above guidance will allow your pumped devices pre-entry checks to deliver accurate measurements – even with reactive gasses – and will keep staff safe and well.
Hazardous area industries including offshore oil/gas platforms and FPSOs, onshore oil refineries, processing plants, pipelines, storage farms and LPG/LNG plants all utilise or produce a wide range of hazardous flammable liquids and gases that can be detected using correctly specified flame and gas detectors.
Detecting toxic and flammable gases requires the detectors to be classified and certified according to the specific IECEx or ATEX standard – we distribute flame and fire detectors manufactured by Spectrex to operate in the harshest environmental conditions including self-contained stand-alone devices designed for direct connection to control and alarm systems or automatic fire extinguishing systems.
Our range of Hazardous Area Fire & Gas Detection Systemproducts also includes Explosion Proof Warning Systems & Hazardous Area Lighting – comprehensive range of intrinsically safe, flameproof and explosion proof alarm sounders, sirens, bells and horns, loudspeakers and beacons.
Process Heating & Maintaining Temperature of Chocolate
Thorne & Derrick International, based in the UK, have recently assisted a leading global confectionary manufacturer with major production issue.
Chocoloate production was at a risk of standstill if a temporary electrical heating solution could not be found and delivered within strict time restraints. T&D assisted and helped to ensure the chocolate continued to flow without revenue losses in the production processes.
Chocolate is a sensitive product to work with as fluctuations in temperature can severely effect the quality of the chocolate produced. Maintaining quality and taste occurs by keeping the temperature range between 40 and 45ºC. Chocolate solidifying is a major problem for manufacturers and blockages can result in down time and significant financial loss.
Heating of Bulk Storage Containers
T&D received a call with an initial requirement for a quantity off 40 IBC heating jackets that were time-critical needing to be on site within a month. The client needed a temporary storage solution during a production transit period. Initially they had requested 40 1KW IBC heating jacketswhich would be very expensive for a temporary solution. The IBC’s were identified as a stop gap and would be required for 8-10 weeks. Temporary storage containers were a possibility but ruled out as they were also too expensive.
HF6IBC-3 IBC Heating Jacket – 3000W
IBC Heaters
Getting a better understanding of the manufacturing process allowed T&D to reduce capital spend and recommend 20 units of the 3KW IBC heating jackets. This was possible as it was identified that all IBC’s didn’t need to be kept warm at any one time. Using 3KW heaters meant heat up times could be significantly reduced which in turn meant the client could reduce the batch control to 20 IBCs and thus 20 heating jackets.
This was a value engineered cost effective solution to a temporary problem. The technical expertise of the T&D design team was required to get a better understanding of what type of heating was required, how the heat up time could be reduced and ultimately what jacket would be most suitable.
