fEATURES & BENEFITS
for level measurement in dissolving tanks
Non-contact level measurement with radar using VEGA VEGAPULS 64 :
Accurate measuring results independent of pressure, temperature, gas and steam
Long service life thanks to highly resistant materials
Reliable measuring results unaffected by foam and agitators
Considerably easier setup and commissioning, even with complex vessel internals
Increased measurement certainty over the entire measuring range through better focusing
High accuracy, even when the sensor is mounted close to the tank wall
LIQUID MEASUREMENT IN DISSOLVING TANKS
The precursors for the manufacture of colour pigments are dissolved in the dissolving tank – the Naptha based precursors are mainly Naphtha based, and, depending on the formulation, water and sodium hydroxide solution are added as solvents for the production of the basic pigment solution. An agitator ensures uniform mixing of substances as they are added – the level measuring system is needed to ensure reliable values that are delivered to the control system.

VEGA VEGAPULS 64
VEGAVEGAPULS 64, the first radar level sensor on the market for liquids that measures at a frequency of 80 GHz. This feature allows considerably better focusing of the radar beam. With this new instrument, measuring is much easier and more reliable, even under difficult conditions, such as tanks fitted with heating coils, baffles or agitators.

Level Sensors
Radar Level Measurement for Liquids & Solids
A radar level measurement instrument uses microwave signals to determine the level of a liquid or solid.
The instrument is placed above the medium and emits a microwave signal which is reflected back to the sensor from the surface of the medium.
The radar level sensor uses this data to determine the distance to the product surface and is thus able to calculate the product level.
The radar level measurement technique is commonly used for measuring liquids and solids in the process industry – applications include process tanks, storage tanks and silos.
This non-contact form of level measurement, utilising VEGA VEGAPULS technology, mean the readings are not influenced by temperature, pressure or product properties.

Radar Level Sensors for Liquids
Two different emission frequencies are available for the level measurement of liquids.
The compact, high-frequency K-band sensors VEGAPULS 61, 62 and 63 are particularly suitable for applications in which very high precision is required.
Excellent signal focusing is achieved even with small antenna sizes.
The low-frequency C-band sensors VEGAPULS 65 and 66, on the other hand, are better able to penetrate foam and strong condensate deposits and are thus suitable for especially difficult process conditions.

Radar Level Sensors for Solids
The high-frequency K-band sensors VEGAPULS 67 and 68 are applied for level measurement in bulk solids. Due to the excellent signal focussing, internal silo installations or build-up on the walls have no influence on the measurement.
The highly sensitive electronics, especially adapted to the requirements of bulk solids measurement, enables reliable level measurement of widely different products up to 75 metres.
